Job Summary:
The Controller, reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), plays a pivotal role in managing all accounting functions at Outreach Community Health Centers. This position ensures accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, budget management, and provides strategic financial insights aligned with the organization’s mission. The role emphasizes addressing the unique financial needs of a community health center environment and includes leading an accounting team while collaborating with various departments to ensure efficient financial operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and relevant healthcare regulations.
- Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting processes, analyzing variances and presenting insights to leadership.
- Develop and maintain financial dashboards to track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to revenue, expenses, and profitability.
Accounting Operations:
- Supervise the accounting team, overseeing tasks related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger management.
- Ensure accuracy in data entry, bank reconciliations, and transaction coding.
- Implement and maintain efficient accounting systems and procedures to ensure compliance and optimize operations.
Compliance and Audit Management:
- Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, including Medicare and Medicaid billing requirements for Community Health Centers (CHCs).
- Coordinate with external auditors to facilitate efficient audit processes and address any findings.
- Monitor and enhance internal controls to mitigate financial risks and safeguard organizational assets.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Collaborate with department leaders to develop comprehensive operational budgets, including revenue projections and expense forecasts.
- Monitor budget performance against actual results, identifying opportunities for cost savings and making necessary adjustments.
Strategic Analysis and Support:
- Provide financial analysis and insights to inform leadership decisions on program development, new initiatives, and resource allocation.
- Partner with clinical teams to assess the financial impact of patient care practices.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve financial performance and operational cost-effectiveness.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred.
- Extensive experience in healthcare accounting, ideally within a community health center setting.
- Strong understanding of federal and state regulations impacting CHCs, including billing and reimbursement guidelines.
- Proven leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to manage and develop accounting teams.
- Proficiency in accounting software and financial reporting tools.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
