JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE: Under the direction of the Behavioral Health clinic manager, the Medical Assistant assists nurses and other behavioral health providers in preparing for medical visits in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Assists in rooming clients for their psychiatric appointment by taking vital signs and updating medication list
- Documents client encounters accurately and timely in the EMR
- Helps maintain accurate records and data collection, including routine BH screenings
- Assists RN with obtaining medications from the pharmacy for injections taking place at the clinic
- Checks fax machine daily and distributes forms to appropriate team member for review
- Follows nurse and provider orders as instructed
- Calls and/or faxes prescriptions in to pharmacies when instructed
- Provides patient education and information
- Participates in clinical meetings as needed
- Assists RN and medical providers with making phone calls and triaging client concerns
- Prepares and performs EKG test on clients when needed
- Provides translation services to clients as needed
- Assists other departments as needed upon availability
- Ensures organization in BH department including nurse office and injection room
- Coordinates with the team during crisis situations
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma - at least 2 to 3 years of experience in a community agency, public health or community health environment, preferably specializing in behavioral health. Experience with EPIC software is preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Requires Wisconsin Medical Assistant certification.
