JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE: The Peer Support Specialist is an active member of the Behavioral Health team. The Peer Support Specialist is a professional with personal lived experience with substance use challenges. They use their unique lived experience, training, and certification in the peer specialist model of Substance Use Disorder-oriented peer support to support people with similar lived experiences. Under the direction of the Lead Therapist, the Peer Support Specialist will provide essential support and guidance to individuals participating in the Contingency Management program at our Behavioral Health Clinic, assisting with delivering and tracking all services, including drug screens and incentive distribution. They will additionally provide peer support services to the broader CCS network by following agency policies and procedures. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Direct Service Responsibilities:
- Outreach and followup with consumers and staff interested in Contingency Management (CM), determining and communicating eligibility and coordinating with other existing treatment providers.
- Completes all necessary enrollment procedures and documentation for CM participants
- Provides orientation and guidance to CM participants and coordinates with treatment staff to ensure collaboration on CM services
- Collaborates with clients to work toward rehabilitation goals.
- Seeks clinical consultation throughout the treatment episode, especially when encountering new and/or highrisk clinical circumstances
- Maintains frequent communication with the treatment teams (including CCS care coordinator), and engages in regular consults, clinical team and case conferences and recovery team meetings
- Delivers services in outpatient or field settings, depending on assignments and/or client needs
Clinical Documentation Responsibilities:
- Writes and completes all progress notes within 72 hours of service delivery
- Maintains compliance with due dates for all clinical documentation
- Documentation must maintain in compliance with agency policy and procedures, HIPAA, and 42CFR standards.
Training, Supervision and Quality Improvement Responsibilities:
- Actively participates in individual supervision, agency and team meetings
- Participates in training opportunities
- Communicates collaboratively with all members of the BH Team
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: A valid driver’s license is required. The Peer Support Specialist must complete approved training and pass the certification examination or be scheduled for the examination within six (6) months of hire. To maintain his/her certification, the peer support specialist is required to complete continuing education hours (CEH) based on the program’s core competencies.
